Vytautas Liesionis' confession

Vytautas Liesionis, g. 1978, for the series

Vytautas the Great University has many distinguished and respected professors, but Vytautas Liesionis is particularly popular among students. His lectures always attract full audiences. It's no secret that this man was chosen as "Teacher of the Year" and "Audience of the Year" at the "V2" teacher awards this year. Not only a great expert in his field, but also a wonderful personality.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

Who knows how to work - works... And seriously - maybe this is my calling? Starting with the first horoscope and ending with professional orientation tests, everything pointed to the path of a teacher. By the way, I started teaching while studying at the university. Then I realized that it was for me. I also realized that a teacher, like anyone else, needs knowledge and skills. That's how I obtained the qualification of an economics teacher at the Education Studies Center of VMU. And... I started teaching. It was the year 2002.

How do you think your life would have turned out if you had not become a teacher?

Guaranteed to be different. I would work as a teacher J. I can't say in which specific field, but such a job is guaranteed.

What is your favorite activity in your free time?

War.

Would you advise your children to study VMU? Why?

And I will advise. At least two years is mandatory. It's like military service.

Do you think VDU is more than a specialty? Why?

Specialty does not include what we normally understand as culture. For me, VDU is unique in its culture. I'm not just talking about communication. About the presence of different personalities in one. People and their work make a university great. Besides everything else, VDU is mine Alma Mater. This would be enough for VMU to be more than a specialty for me.

Tell us about your years of study.

This is exactly the question where there is not much to say J. I had to learn a lot and hard. Somehow I instinctively felt that "slipping through" was not enough for me and was very short-sighted. I had to work during my study years, and I was still young... Of course, there are things that cannot be forgotten and that you want to share. First of all, the people I met at university. And not only in the ranks of teachers. I met a whole host of exceptional personalities from whom there was much to learn. The connections made during the studies have remained until now.

Tell us about the year you spent at VMU. What memories come flooding back?

Oh, VDU - the best memories and experiences. Maybe it would be better to say experiences that continue until now. I have been at VDU since 1996... I remember the day when I made the decision to study here. And since then, I have not doubted his truth for a moment.

What would you put on your pizza?

Precise, desire, will, tolerance, love.

How happy are you and why?

Happiness is a strange thing. I would rather call it the fulfillment of life. Did mine come true? I don't know yet, I have unachieved goals, unfinished tasks. I have, of course, everything that is most important at this stage of life: a beloved wife, a daughter, a second child on the way to this world. We are healthy, we have homes, understanding and consensus. Sometimes we also have smoke that lets us understand how well we live.

If you were a caveman, who would you classify yourself as, gatherers or hunters? Why?

Hunters. Unequivocally. I am a third generation soldier.

What are some curious stories that happened during lectures?

Good question. Probably something like this happens during every course. There have been cases when the teacher had to leave the audience because he could no longer conduct the session. There were times when I had to leave the audience because finding a common language with the students was too difficult. I have had to give the same lecture to the same students twice after getting lost in the calendar. I like to lock the auditorium door after the lecture starts. Experiences are special…

Do you like to travel and do you have to travel a lot?

I have to travel a lot, and I don't like traveling. I am a housewife. In addition, we live in the countryside, so every day is a trip... However, I accept it as part of the job. Not the most fun, but necessary.

What color would you describe yourself and why?

Green is the color of life.

What do you imagine yourself to be in five years?

I think without major changes from now on... Dad of a larger family, teacher, soldier, amateur farmer...

The benefits of your work and the "other side of the coin".

Conditionally free work schedule is the biggest plus of academic work. Freedom of choice and the opportunity to have your own opinion. And working with people. Of course, absolutes are rare, so this activity also has that "other side". These are student written works… Required scholarly publications. A rarer but more painful thing is the oversaturation of communication. And finally, the biggest "minus" is the commercialization of higher education. It is not for me to judge the necessity and strategies, but going through this transformation is not easy.

A wish for ambitious students.

Healthy ambitions, willpower, tolerance and love.
