The Lithuanian student body again surprises with its awareness
The recently passed wave of elections and the activity of the Lithuanian youth who participated in them showed an extremely high level of involvement of students in issues relevant to the state. Apparently, student citizenship and awareness did not end with the elections. On November 8, student self-governments of Lithuanian higher schools invited students to voluntarily test their knowledge in the academic test "Enlightenment 2016". Almost 300 students wanted to participate in the knowledge test. The questions were related to the documents of the Bologna process, Laws on Science and Studies, Education, Volunteerism and the student movement.
The second stage of the exam will be held on November 17, during the International Student Day, at Vytautas the Great University. This project is more than just an academic test. The organizers of the project invite on November 17 to participate in an academic conference, where such famous people as Tomas Nemura, Artūras Bulota will share about the causes of academic dishonesty, such as procrastination and lack of creativity. Also, at the conference, it will be possible to engage in a topical discussion about the threats, opportunities and challenges of the merger of higher education institutions. Vytautas the Great University Rector J. Augutis, Kaunas University of Technology Rector P. Baršauskas and Kaunas College Director M. Misiūnas will participate in the discussion, and it will be moderated by Lithuanian Students' Union Vice President A. Zalitis.
"In implementing the project "Enlightenment 2016", which in the original application was called "Academic studentship", we aim to develop the academic awareness of Lithuanian students, a sense of responsibility when writing various reports and exams. We also wanted to look at the problem of academic dishonesty from a different perspective, so during the conference students will be able to hear and learn effective methods of learning and time planning. We are glad that the student representative of Vytautas the Great University willingly joined other higher school municipalities, and His Excellency President Valdas Adamkus himself agreed to patronize the project. Three hundred students – still a relatively small number, but we believe that it will grow, and academics will eventually become a fashionable and relevant concept on the lips of every student",– one of its creators, Arnoldas Borovskis, talks about the project.
November 17 we will find out which Lithuanian student will perform best in academics. The winner will be awarded a tablet.
