Graduates and final year students are insured until the end of the summer

As another academic year comes to an end, the State Health Insurance Fund under the Ministry of Health (SHF) reminds you that summer school graduating Schoolchildren and students of full-time (full-time) departments will be insured with compulsory health insurance (PSD) at state expense until the end of the summer - August 31 inclusive.

Therefore, after this period, if young people do not continue their studies, they will not be included in the lists of those insured at state expense, or if they do not find employment, they will have to pay PSD contributions independently. If young people decide to continue their studies full-time, they would be insured by the state and would not have to pay PSD contributions themselves.

The VLK reminds that if young people find employment, their employer will pay their PSD contributions, if they decide to engage in individual activity, they will have to pay these contributions to Sodra themselves, and if they start individual activity under a business certificate - to the State Tax Inspectorate. If a young person does not have the opportunity to engage in work, they should register with the labor exchange - after obtaining the status of unemployed, the state will insure the young person for PSD. This will be temporary social security and state assistance until the young person finds permanent employment.

Meanwhile, for full-time (full-time) students who graduated and received their diplomas in January, February, March or April or who discontinued their studies altogether for any reason, the PSD insurance at state funds ended on the last day of the month of graduation or discontinuation of studies inclusive. For example, if a student received a diploma, was expelled from an educational institution or discontinued his studies of his own free will in February, his PSD at state funds was valid until the last day of February.

Well, those schoolchildren or students who have not yet completed their studies or full-time (full-time) studies this year will be insured for PSD with state funds in the next academic year.

Meanwhile, if young people who have graduated from Lithuania go to study in European Union (EU) countries, their insurance will be valid according to the start and end dates of the training period indicated in the certificate issued by the higher education institution in an EU country. If they go further outside Europe, for example, to the United States of America or Russia, such students are not insured at state expense and must take care of their own health insurance (e.g., take out insurance with a private insurance company).

Young people studying in full-time departments of EU higher education institutions must submit to the territorial health insurance fund (TLK) a certificate issued by the higher education institution where they study and a document confirming their identity (passport or personal identity card). The certificate should be filled out on the official letterhead of the higher education institution, and it must indicate the student's personal data (name, surname, date of birth), the department where the student studies (full-time) and the period of study.

If a full-time student of an EU higher education institution is unable to submit documents in person, the original certificate and a copy of the first page of the passport (or a copy of the personal identity card) can be sent to the ILC by registered mail - the period of compulsory health insurance for him will be determined from the date of entitlement based on the data of the sent certificate.

The VLK reminds that the PSD contribution paid by a self-insured person is currently LTL 90. The amount of the PSD contribution paid by a person carrying out an activity depends on the form of his activity. More information can be found on the VLK website. www.vlk.lt in the "For Residents" section or get information by calling the general telephone number 8 700 88888.
