The VMU Student Parliament approved the regulations of the activities of the Elders and discussed other issues
On August 19, a repeated remote meeting of the Student Parliament of Vytautas the Great University (VDU) took place. During the meeting, the regulations for the activities of study program course elders were approved, the "Kaunas pride" initiative was discussed, the establishment of the Student Aid Fund was considered, and the progress of the public canteen working group was discussed.
Matas Čepurna, Coordinator of Student Representatives of VDU SA, presented the Regulations for the Elders of the Study Program Courses, which were adjusted according to the comments of the VDU Student Parliament. These regulations will regulate the activities of elders, describe their rights and duties, and the election procedure. After the presentation of the document, Žygymantas Menčenkovas made a remark that the activities of the elders are voluntary, therefore the word "must" should not be used in the document when talking about participation in training or accreditation. A question was also raised about the lack of information, what to do if it is not possible to elect an elder. Parliamentarians unanimously agreed to approve these regulations with two corrections, taking into account the comments made.
During the meeting, the questions raised by the parliamentarians regarding the support of VDU SA were discussed.Kaunas cityinitiative and the LGBTQ+ community. During the discussion, it was considered whether the implementation of the raised points corresponds to the mission and statutes of VDU SA. It was decided not to financially support this initiative, as its organizers received sufficient support from the country, but the parliament unanimously agreed to express support For the LGBTQ+ community of VDU SA on social networks.
The idea of establishing a student aid fund at VDU SA received a lot of comments. The main reason why parliamentarians did not approve the fund is that VDU SA is a non-profit organization that does not have sufficient and stable sources of income.
The meeting also discussed the progress and future plans of the working group of the public canteen at the university. The installation of a canteen is already planned in the renovated VDU building on K. Donelaičio Street. This working group will continue its work: it will communicate with the university organizations and the administration, with the aim of making the canteen meet the expectations of the students.
At the end of the meeting, Ieva Vengrovskaja commented on the planned studies in a contact manner and encouraged everyone to get opportunities for passports by vaccination (if you can due to health issues) and to encourage friends to do so.
Before the elections of the new VMU Student Parliament in the fall, another meeting of this parliament is scheduled to discuss relevant issues.
