What is the VMU Student Parliament?

The VMU Student Parliament is the highest governing body of students, which consists of representatives elected by students from faculties and academies and all study levels. In the Parliament, problems raised by student representatives are resolved and issues relevant to students are discussed. The positions of the organization (VDU SA) on the most important issues of higher education and other issues are considered and formed, the President of the VDU Student Parliament, the President of the VDU SA, the Board and Audit are elected or removed by secret ballot, the activities and financial reports of the VDU SA are considered and approved, and new VDU SAs are corrected or submitted documents.

The Student Parliament approves student representatives to the governing bodies of the university. With the majority of votes of all elected members, the Student Parliament can demand a re-consideration of the decisions made by the university's self-governing institutions on study issues.

Why is it worth running for the seat of a Member of Parliament?

"Participation in the activities of the Student Parliament provides an opportunity to get acquainted with the current affairs of the university and students of other departments. It teaches you to work with documents, to express your thoughts in a reasoned way and to debate, thereby overcoming the fear of public speaking, says Solveiga Skaisgirytė, Chairwoman of the VDU SA Board. "The Student Parliament is the place where you can raise questions that are important to you, your fellow students, and the students of your faculty, demand positive changes, get support and watch how those changes are implemented." Freshmen can boldly apply. In addition, it is not necessary to be a member of VDU SA in order to be actively involved in the activities of the Student Parliament.

How will the elections be held?

This year, due to the COVID-19 situation, the election procedure remains the same as last year. "All you have to do is fill out the application and write a motivational letter in free form. In it, describe why you want to become a member of the VMU Student Parliament, what ideas you would like to bring there or what to give to students, maybe you already have competences that are useful in the activities of the parliament", says the Chairperson of the Board. On November 4-5, remote voting for candidates will take place on the Outlook platform. During the 48-hour voting period, each student will have one vote for one candidate.
