24-hour library: what you need to know?
Today, the President of Vytautas Magnus University's Student Representative Office (VDU SA) Paulius Vaitiekus met with VDU library director Lina Bloveščiūnien. A final agreement was reached regarding the 24-hour L. Donskis library-reading room, located at V. Putvinskio str., during the spring session. 23, first floor.
The library-reading room will be open non-stop (both on weekdays and weekends) from May 13 to June 1, 4 p.m. From 21:00, it will be possible to enter the library only through the inner courtyard, upon presentation of a document proving VMU student status (LSP, ISIC certificate or certificate) at the entrance. It is important to note that only the library will be open from 9 p.m., so going to other parts of the building (except for the toilets on the basement floor of the building) is strictly prohibited. It is also mandatory to comply university library rules.
"For now, this is a pilot project of a 24-hour library," says P. Vaitiekus, "we will monitor how many students gather, at what hours the flow is the highest, and if the idea works out, we will plan further actions."
In November 2018, VDU SA collected 710 signatures of students who support the idea of a 24/7 working library-reading room. The request was presented to the rector of VMU, prof. Juozus Augučius, who tasked VDU library director Lina Bloveščiūnienė to prepare a strategy for a 24/7 library-reading room.
