Life in VMU dormitories

Probably, more than one freshman has doubts and questions about what to choose when arriving in another city in the first year of studies: live in a dormitory or rent an apartment or a room? Everyone knows that living in a dorm has its pluses and minuses, but the truth about what kind of world boils within the walls of the dorm can best be told by the students who live there.

TAIKA (Taikos Ave. 119)

I will be living in the "Taikos" dormitory for the second year, and as far as I have heard about the others, I can say that this dormitory is one of the best. For such a price, you can almost live in a hotel. The rooms are divided into blocks (triple+double room). They have a toilet and a shower. The kitchen is shared by the residents of the entire floor, but they are really good. Now it is planned to buy refrigerators for the rooms. Because the dormitory was renovated 3-4 years ago, so everything is new. People here are fun, events are organized, the attendants are also good. There is a shared TV in the 6th floor lobby. They also provide bed linen, blankets, pillows - everything, if needed. Bed linen is changed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. There are washing machines and dryers. You can definitely live in a dormitory, and especially in this one!

Dormitory stand: the biggest advantage - showers - each block has a separate one. The kitchen is one for the entire floor, very neat and newly equipped: there are stoves, microwaves, etc. - the situation is very good. The rooms are also newly furnished, spacious enough, they provide bed linen, internet cable, and a towel when you move in. Advantages of the location: good communication, trolleybuses run frequently, nearby shopping centers - "Maxima" and "Prisma", "McDonalds", "Urmas". There are many students around, because the Kaunas College dormitory is nearby.

All the rights and responsibilities of the dormitory residents are described in the description of the internal rules of the dormitories of Vytautas the Great University. But life itself is a little different here.

The dormitory has 9.5 floors, 9 of them have triple and double and block-type rooms (one double and one triple room have one shared bathroom). The 9.5th floor is uninhabited, where friends meet more often, drink tea, talk and admire the panorama of Kaunas, which is truly stunning - you can see the "Žalgiris" arena, the Cathedral, the Aleksot bridge. There are also two kitchens on each floor, where you can find everything you need: from a frying pan to a couple of potatoes, of course, borrowed items must always be returned. The kitchens are very tidy - you just have to go and cook! Just never forget your friends - they need to be treated to dinner too! The seventh floor is special because it is where students with a thirst for knowledge can find a reading room. It is dominated by silence and concentration. During the session, you are likely to find your friends nowhere else, but here. After taking the elevator down to the basement, you can find a laundry room. There are several washers and dryers to keep students clean at all times. We have a TV on the first floor, we often gather there to watch basketball matches or other important shows. But it's not where you live, not how big your room is, but your roommates! Many will confirm that the coolness of living in a "barrack" is directly proportional to the fun of your roommates!

Once settled in "Baltija" it's comfortable, the rooms are double or triple, the toilet and bath belong either to one room or to a block (two rooms), each floor has two kitchens, floors 3-6 were at least now erasmus's, but as far as I know, there will be even more of them this year, so that order will change. As for accommodation, a contract is signed with the guard, you must have a documentary photo with you, which goes to the guards, to their so-called facebook, bed linen can be changed every Wednesday or Thursday, there is a laundry in the basement, which is open 24 hours a day from 8 am to 12 pm. and then 15-24 hours. From 10 p.m. quiet hours in the dormitory. The biggest differences from other dormitories is that they live here erasmus and that it is in a very convenient location, there is no problem to reach all the central faculties and it is easy to get to Vileika, as only a couple of trolleybuses are not suitable. It's actually very well connected, practically everyone passes through here. Stations (both railway and bus) are very close. In the lobby there is table football and billiards (for a fee), as well as a TV. As for the guests, they can stay until 00:00 in the evening, outsiders are admitted in the morning, probably from 7:30, if not earlier. For those living in a dormitory, if they have guests coming to them, it is possible to reserve guest rooms through the system, and if it is a family member, a discount is given.

Situation: showers are good (not like in the video), rooms are diverse, individual and express everyone's personality and creativity; kitchen - the 2nd kitchen on the 4th floor looks great, and the others - not so much... toilets - hm... there are various situations... Location - a bit far from the center and that means too far from the student movement (problems with returning home, but not too big compared to those who live at the other end of the city, because it only takes half an hour to drive). Actually, it's quite a normal place - trolleybuses run every 10 minutes during the day, so you won't get lost.
