Will you be a new member of Parliament?
Starting October 21, elections for new candidates to the Vytautas Magnus University Student Parliament begin.
It's an opportunity for everyone to represent their faculty or academy students, address emerging issues, and help improve study conditions.
What is the VMU Student Parliament?
The VDU Student Parliament is the highest student governing body, where issues important to students are discussed, the organization's common positions are formed, and the VDU SA statutes, procedural rules, and regulations are changed and updated. Members of Parliament elect and remove the VDU SA president, the Speaker of Parliament, members of the Board and the Audit Commission by secret ballot, and they also review and approve the annual reports on the activities and finances of the representation.
The parliament's work isn't just limited to making decisions in meetings. Its members also take part in shaping student representation in other university bodies. In parliamentary sessions, based on the president's nomination, student representatives to the VDU Senate, the dispute resolution committee, and other university institutions and structures are approved.
That's why an MP's vote is important not just for making decisions in Parliament itself, but also for representing students' interests across the whole university.
Being a member of Parliament means taking responsibility for representing the voice of your faculty or academy students and actively contributing to university life and the changes happening there.
How are the elections?
Each candidate is voted on by the students of their academic unit, and the representatives for doctoral students are voted on by students from all doctoral programs. Student Parliament elections are organized according to the VDU Student Parliament, confirmed at the meeting on October 16.
