At the university - prof. Presentation of K. Almen's novel
On Friday, March 28, at 4 p.m., the VMU Lithuanian Diaspora Institute (S. Daukanto St. 25, 2nd floor) will host a presentation of the latest novel "Vaivos juosta" (2014) by writer, VMU honorary doctor Prof. Kazys Almenas.
During the event, there will be a discussion about the Lithuanian detective tradition, the specifics of Prof. K. Almenas' detective novel. Along with the author, the presentation will be attended by historian Prof. Egidijus Aleksandravičius, literary critic Eugenija Valienė, and representatives of the publishing house. The event is organized by the VMU Lithuanian Diaspora Institute and the VMU Department of Lithuanian Literature.
Prof. K. Almen's novel "Vaivas juosta" is the second book in a detective series about militia lieutenant Donatas Vėbras (the first was "Lietingos dienos", 2012). Against the backdrop of powerful propaganda, the difficult life of the Soviet people continues: queues everywhere, shops are empty, victorious parades of the revolution are taking place, corruption and endless hypocrisy are rampant, and in neighboring Poland - great unrest. In this context, the unpredictable life of a militia lieutenant also unfolds uneasily and tensely. He is assigned the task of solving the mysterious murder of a "Vaiva" employee (but will he succeed?), in case of success, he would probably deserve a promotion and recognition... But is it possible to do this without betraying his principles and without sacrificing himself for better living or household conditions? Or will he have to play a double game, taking an example from the Soviet nomenklatura members in high positions?
