The Student Parliament approved the regulations for the activities of Student Representatives and raised other issues
On May 24, a repeated remote meeting of the Student Parliament of Vytautas the Great University (VDU) took place. During the meeting, the regulations for the activities of the Student Representatives of study program committees and Elders of Study Program courses were presented, a working group was formed on the direct election of the president of the VMU Student Representation (SA) and the accountability of student representatives in the Senate and the Council was discussed.
The meeting started with the election of the new secretary of the Student Parliament. Only one candidate was nominated for this position - Viktorija Zaveckaitė. There were no objections to this proposal.
After the approval of the new parliamentary secretary, VDU SA Academic Affairs Coordinator Monika Ražauskaitė presented the regulations for the activities of Student Representatives of study program committees. The document is intended not only to ensure better communication between Student Representatives and Elders, but also to regulate the procedure for the election of representatives, determine the rights and duties of representatives, and guarantee the provision of the necessary academic knowledge. The regulations for the activities of student representatives were approved by a joint resolution and will be published on the VDU SA website in the near future.
Another document presented is the Regulations for the Activities of the Elders of Study Program Courses. They were presented by Student Representative Coordinator Matas Čepurna. Regulations on the activities of elders are necessary to regulate their activities, clearly state their rights and duties, and establish the election procedure. After the presentation of the document, attention was drawn to the shortcomings: the absence of a motivational system, the unargued need for accreditation of academic knowledge. The parliamentarians did not approve the provisions of the Elders' activities, the document will be revised and presented at the next meeting.
The issue raised in March was the direct election of the president of the VDU SA. During the parliamentary session, a working group was voluntarily assembled to further develop this idea. The following MPs expressed their desire to participate in the activity: Gustė Žukauskaitė, Martynas Butkus, Žygymantas Menčenkovas, Monika Ražauskaitė, Daniel Mačichin, Emil Starodubov, Ieva Vengrovskaja and Matas Čepurna.
The last items on the agenda of the meeting are the accountability of student representatives in the Senate and the Council. At the suggestion of Martynas Butkaus, the representatives of the Senate should report on the activities carried out in the Senate and the work done at the next parliamentary meeting. After discussing this proposal in detail, the parliamentarians will wait for the Senate representatives and the presentation of their activities at the next meeting to be held in September. Students' representative Kęstutis Jasiulevičius, who joined the parliament's internal communication channel, will tell parliamentarians about his activities in the Council.
