Table football is taking root in student leisure areas
The most advanced Lithuanian higher education institutions, following the example of the best foreign universities, provide leisure areas for their students. Table football often becomes an integral part of such leisure areas.
Table football enthusiasts are happy that this will contribute to the popularity of this way of spending free time, and students are happy to be able to not only study, but also have fun in their schools.
According to the president of the Lithuanian Students' Union (LSS), Paulius Baltoks, the emergence of leisure zones and the development of the infrastructure of higher education institutions are extremely important for students.
"High school for many students is not just lectures and laboratory work. This is a place where a community is formed, where conditions must be created to realize one's abilities, improve communication skills and expand one's social circle. "According to the data of the Eurostudent study, the income of Lithuanian students is one of the lowest in Europe, so it is important for students to have leisure areas that meet their needs and are accessible at their higher education institution," says P. Baltokas.
According to Rida Raicevičius, the project manager of the "Lounge" leisure space of the ISM University of Management and Economics, the university's entertainment zone was set up in an effort to offer the widest possible range of activities to students.
"In the university's leisure space, students can play recreational billiards, the Xbox game console, watch movies, play table football, and we also have a collection of the latest business, economic, and political magazines," says R. Raicevičius, member of the ISM Student Representative Board.
The leisure area of the university is a center of attraction for students, where students who have a short break and a free lecture can relax. "We tried to place a variety of entertainment in the space, so everyone can find what is closest to them. I can safely say that table football has become one of the most popular activities offered at the university. It is convenient for students: you can not waste a break for one game, the game itself is dynamic and exciting, giving the opportunity to meet new people", says R. Raicevičius.
The desire of higher schools to purchase their own foosball tables does not surprise Simon Jakubauskas, the founder of the club "Foosin" and the organizer of the upcoming student table football championship "Paysera Student League".
"It is a relaxing and extremely gambling game. Table football is a great tool for those who want to take a break from studies, to have a good release both emotionally and physically, which is why it is popular in places visited by students. The element of communication is also prominent here: players who meet at the table often become good friends", says S. Jakubauskas.
According to the Paysera Student League organizer, it is the students who are the most active participants in table football tournaments. Currently, students can play table football in at least six Lithuanian higher education institutions.
"We are constantly communicating with student representatives regarding foosball tables in high schools. We are also happy to have the opportunity to contribute to the organization of student events and thus popularize this leisure activity in Lithuania", says the founder of Foosin.
The first student table football championship was held in 2009. More than 60 students from various high schools participated in it. This year, after a four-year break, students will again compete in the most popular table football - doubles - event at the "Litexpo" exhibition center, accumulating points for personal, team, faculty and high school rankings.
The "Paysera Student League" student table football championship will be held on February 8. You can register for the championship www.studentulyga.lt.
