Student initiatives continue: the first event will soon take place in the Student Square

In Kaunas Vienybės square, near the Kaunas Technology and Vytautas Dijiios universities, the preparation of the Student Square has started. A recreation and leisure space is being created for members of the entire academic community. And on May 14-15, the first event - the VDU Spring Festival - will take place here.

The Spring Festival is an event organized by VDU Student Representation (VDU SA) for the thirteenth year in a row and is intended not only for students, but also for all residents of the city of Kaunas. Every year this project promotes different ideas. This year, the main ideas of the festival are: ecological thinking, civic responsibility, personal self-expression, healthy lifestyle and academic integrity and activity. It is an event for everyone, as the festival is characterized by a variety of events and activities every year.

The project was implemented for the first time in 2002, initiated by the then president of VDU SA, Tados Martusevičius. As expected from the beginning, the Spring Festival has grown into a huge city-wide event and attracts more and more people every year. The festival of 2014 is special because Vytautas the Great University is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its restoration, and the tradition of celebrating the representative's birthday has not been lost anywhere, this year is already the 20th.

It should be remembered that the idea of the Student Square came to the initiators completely by accident. "We noticed that the part of Vienybės Square (between KTU and VDU) is dilapidated, untidy, benches are old, cars are parked illegally. We decided that it would be really fun to have a nice place, a park between the universities, where students could rest, sit, enjoy the beautiful weather or otherwise spend their free time between lectures or after lectures", says Justinas Petkus, president of VDU SA.

So soon, students will not only be able to spend their free time in an organized, cozy environment, it will be a place where students can create, share and improve, and the goal of the Spring Festival is similar - personal self-expression and improvement are one of the ideas of the event. Thus, the Student Square is already being set up, student initiatives are not being written off, and the famous VDU Spring Festival is coming very soon, which will, as it were, christen the newly equipped student space.
