A festival that will help to look at social problems through a different prism
On May 10-11, Kaunas will host the annual "Spring Festival" organized by the Vytautas Magnus University (VDU) Student Representative Office, which will invite people not to remain indifferent to social problems. The motto of the festival this year is "Not the same for everyone!".
According to the organizers, such a topic was chosen because recently the public is extremely concerned about bullying, gender inequality, the integration of the disabled into the environment close to us and other long-standing social problems. By drawing the attention of students and the city community to these problems, the festival hopes to show that we all care about them and find common solutions.
During the "Spring Festival", various events, conferences, talks will take place in the spaces of the city of Kaunas. It is expected that special attention will be paid to the Social Forum this year, which will be held in the VMU Multipurpose Center for Studies and Sciences. Among the participants of the forum are singer, creator of social projects, head of advertising agency "Adell Taivas Ogilvy" Dovilė Filmanavičiūtė, also known by the pseudonym "Miss Sheep", and other well-known figures of society and science. The festival will also host the "VDU Living Library", where it will be possible to choose interesting and attractive "books" for everyone and get to know their stories.
Rūta Šerpytytė, the public relations coordinator of the VMU Student Representation, says that after long deliberations about what message this year's "Spring Festival" should convey, it was decided that this time a simple slogan would not be enough. "Spring Festival" will talk about social problems, exclusion, inequality, stereotypes. Therefore, we can understand the message of the festival ambiguously: first, it is not the same for everyone, because not everyone is valued the same today, which is a problem; and secondly, it is not the same for everyone, because there are people who do not have these problems in the same way, and we will prove this during the festival!", explains R. Šerpytytė.
Although this year the "Spring Festival" focuses on social issues, it will not be forgotten, and every year Quidditch, basketball, volleyball and other sports competitions, dance lessons, and creative workshops are held. Also, after a break of several years, the evening of acoustic music will return, this year called "My Matrix - You". The festival will be crowned with a closing concert with famous Lithuanian performers.
