On April 25, we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the restoration of VDU

On Friday, April 25, we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the restoration of VMU - it will be the most important cycle for this occasion event. 11 o'clock Professors Rimus Kalvaičius and Kęstučius Skrupskelais will be presented with honorary doctorate regalia in the Great Hall of VDU (Gimnazijos St. 7), and at 4:00 p.m. Festive celebrations for community members, friends, partners and buddies will be held in the VDU's great hall (S. Daukanto str. 28).

The events will start in the great hall - here at 11 a.m. Members of the VMU Restorative Senate, professors Rimus Kalvaičius and Kęstučius Skrupskelis, will be presented with the regalia of the title of honorary doctor of VMU.

Prof. Rimas Kalvaitis is an active participant and organizer of diaspora events, who, upon returning to Lithuania, contributed to the restoration of VMU and the restoration of Lithuanian Independence, taught at the Faculty of Economics and Management of VMU. Worked simultaneously at the University of New Hampshire (UK) and New England College (USA). Several VMU students also went to the latter at his invitation for intensive marketing courses.

Prof. Kęstutis Skrupskelis visited VMU every year since 1991, taught philosophy, contributed to the development of university departments, shared his experience, presented advanced ideas about the traditions of philosophy and its connections with modern educational practice in the USA, collaborated with VMU's Center for Expatriate Studies. The scientist also taught philosophy at the University of South Carolina (USA), and is currently its professor emeritus.

On the same day, at 4:00 p.m., a celebration dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the restoration of VDU will be held in the VDU's great hall (28 S. Daukanto St.), to which all community members, friends, partners, buddies are invited to participate. Celebrating a resounding anniversary, the university will also make happy those with whom sincere cooperation has been going on for many years.

VMU rector prof. Zigmas Lydeka, chairman of the Senate, prof. Zigmantas Kiaupa, guests of the celebrations. The celebration will be crowned by a concert in which the VDU chamber orchestra (conductor Robertas Bliškevičius), VDU mixed choir (conductor Jeronimas Serebrinskas) and soloists of the Academy of Music will perform.

These events are of the cycle of events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the university's restoration part Throughout the academic year, VMU organizes international, cultural events relevant not only to academics, but also to society as a whole.

VDU was restored in 1989. in April, with the joint efforts of scientists and intellectuals from Lithuania and the diaspora. Since its restoration, VMU has been guided by the values of openness, dialogue and tolerance, based on the experience of Western universities, and provides the freedom to study in one's own way, to develop as individuals. The university encourages getting to know other cultures, develops citizenship, and pays attention to what is increasingly valued in a constantly changing world - maturity of ideas, expression of personality, communication, partnership.

About Prof. Rim Kalvaitis

Prof. R. Kalvaitis was born in Kaunas, grew up in Rumšiškės and Zapyšky until 1944. He went to Western Europe with his parents during the war, lived and worked in Germany, Belgium, Ireland, England, France, and later moved to the United States. He completed his studies there, obtained the scientific degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), and raised five children with his wife. Active participant and organizer of expatriate events.

in 1989 he was elected to the Restorative Senate of the VMU (until 1996), a year later he returned to Lithuania to contribute to the restoration of Independence. He was also a member of the Senate at Vytautas the Great University (1996-2000), and worked as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Economics and Management (1991-1997). At the university, he taught marketing, management, and advertising practical courses for entrepreneurs.

1992-1993 prof. R. Kalvaitis was a foreign economic adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, and also worked simultaneously at the University of New Hampshire (UK) and New England College (USA). At his invitation, VMU students participated in summer intensive marketing courses at New England College.

While working in Lithuania, he also published three collections of poetry, and still maintains relations with the VDU community.

About Prof. Kęstutis Skrupskelis

Prof. K. Skrupskelis was born in Kaunas, in the family of Ignos Skrupskelis, one of the most interesting pre-war journalists, and Alina Skrupskelienė, a literary scholar. His academic specialty is the history of American philosophy and the research and editing of philosophical texts. He taught philosophy at the University of South Carolina (USA) and Vytautas the Great University, and is currently Professor Emeritus of Philosophy.

Since 1991 taught philosophy of education at the VMU Pedagogical Center, later at the Department of Education. He contributed to the development of these departments by sharing his accumulated experience and during the first decade of the restored university by presenting progressive ideas about the traditions of philosophy and its connections with modern educational practice in the USA to the VMU community, giving philosophy lectures to master's students, doctoral students, and teachers.

The professor has also conducted archival research. He has adapted their methods in Lithuanian when reviewing the book "The Provisional Government of Lithuania. Minutes of meetings" (2001).

The philosopher is interested in the intellectual life of pre-war Lithuania, the history of the press, the effects of occupations on the development of political consciousness. He has written and published the books "Future Friends. A History of Futurists to 1940" (2010), "Child's Play: Cartoons of the '20th Century'" (2008), published many articles in academic, cultural and other press.
