The temporary rotation principles were approved at the Senate meeting

On October 26, a meeting of the Senate of Vytautas the Great University took place, during which three resolutions of particular relevance to students were adopted. Senators discussed the issue of compulsory lecture attendance and during the voting it was decided that lecture attendance at Vytautas the Great University will continue to be optional. During the meeting, the temporary principles of rotation were also adopted and the proposal to retake the exam twice was approved.

For a long time there has been talk about attending lectures at our university - should it be compulsory or not? However, the voting that took place after the discussions and deliberations of the senators led to the fact that the order of attending lectures does not change. Of the 40 senators who attended the meeting, 28 voted to maintain the current order, 7 abstained and 5 voted against.

in 2016 September 29 The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania adopted a new version of the Law on Science and Studies, which specified the conditions under which good students are guaranteed free education in public higher education institutions. Therefore, in the Senate, taking into account this law and the conference of rectors of Lithuanian universities on September 12. resolution, temporary rotation principles were adopted at our university. From now on, there will be three levels of study achievements associated with a ten-point study results evaluation scale: excellent (9 and 10), typical (7 and 8) and threshold (5 and 6). A student in good standing and potentially retaining/taking up a state-funded place will be considered to be free of academic debt and achieving an excellent or typical level of achievement during the assessment period. The adopted temporary rotation principles take effect from this semester, and the rotation will take place in 2017. on August 31. Every year after the end of the evaluation period, rotation takes place in every first-cycle and integrated study course, except for the final one.

The Senate also approved another additional retaking of the exam. Taking into account the results of the students' studies, Article 144 of the Study Regulation is proposed. change as follows: "A student or student who has failed the exam or received a negative final evaluation of the study subject has the right to retake the exam once free of charge and retake it a second time for a fee." Until now, students had the right to retake the exam only once.

"The reasons for not passing the exam or retaking it, not learning the material or not attending it at all can be various and conditioned by certain things that are not directly dependent on the student: illness, misfortune among relatives and others. There are cases when students are more difficult in the humanities or social sciences, but they are extremely gifted in the exact sciences and vice versa and the students simply fail to show good results. Therefore, I consider the decision made by the Senate to allow students to retake the exam a second time, despite the fact that it would be paid, very positive. I hope that there will be as few such cases as possible and that students will successfully pay for everything during the exam session", says Eigirdas Sarkanas, president of the VMU Student Representation.
