Students are invited to participate in a memory research project

VSU Art Gallery "101" invites active, proactive and curious students interested in the history of the city to join the scientific-creative memory research project "Kaunas cultural memory sites" and gain theoretical and practical experience. About the project

This is a collaborative project of students and researchers from different fields, dedicated to urban memory research. During the project, a virtual archive/database of the cultural memory of the city of Kaunas will be created www.atmintiesvietos.lt. The interactive website will be formed not only from historical, documentary and other sources, but also from individual memory stories and stories.

The goal of the project is to encourage the scientific and creative engagement of young researchers and create conditions for the creative application of scientific knowledge in practical research.

Opportunities for students

The project will provide young researchers with methodological tools necessary for memory research, guidelines for collecting and synthesizing memories, narratives, archival, and video material, which will be used in collecting, analyzing, and publishing research material. In this project, students will acquire not only theoretical, but also practical research and project implementation knowledge and skills.

Project participants

It is expected that about 10 young researchers (students of sociology, history, art studies, heritage, anthropology and other fields), 4-5 scientists, experts - specialists in history, heritage, art history and sociology will participate in the project.

During the project, young researchers will conduct surveys of cultural communities, interviews with cultural creators, collect historical documentation, film, take photos, etc.

Expected results

The collected material will be published on a new website www.atmintiesvietos.lt.

Continuity

This project is from 2013. The project "Laisvės alėjas bohemia: places of memory" implemented by VDU art gallery "101". Continuation of Young Researchers' City Memory Research", during which VMU students of different majors collected interviews of cultural creators, researched the bohemian memory sites of Laisvės Alley and prepared a "Guide to the bohemian Laisvės Alley" and shared the research material on the project's blog: http://projectaleja.wordpress.com/.
