News at Vytautas the Great University

On June 29, the last meeting of the Senate of Vytautas the Great University of this academic year took place. During it, several issues of particular importance and relevance to students were discussed. First of all, taking into account the results of the survey conducted by the VMU Students' Representative Office, in which 101 TP3T of all VDU students participated, it turned out that even 871 TP3T students are against compulsory lecture attendance. After the results were submitted to the Senate, the regulation item on compulsory lecture attendance was not accepted (!)

Another very important amendment of the new regulation is that the concept of subjects A, B, D is changing, which will apply to PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS.

  • The current group A, which consisted of compulsory general university subjects, no longer exists and is replaced by "Subjects of the main fields of study, intended for the acquisition of knowledge and abilities in various fields of study, as well as foreign languages." This subject group consists of four study areas and one foreign language subgroup." This subject group consists of 4 study areas and one foreign language subgroup:

-Biomedical, physical and technological sciences;

- Humanitarian sciences;

-Social sciences;

- Arts;

- Foreign languages.

Students will have to choose at least one study subject from each of the four study area subgroups, without choosing a subject that is in the same field of study as the study program they are studying. As before, students will have to take group A subjects during the first two years of study.

The student will have to choose at least 12 credits from the foreign language subgroup, which consists of compulsory English and other foreign language study subjects taught at the University. IMPORTANT: Prospective students will need to reach C1 level of English (up until now it was B2 level).

  • According to the new amendments, group B will now consist of alternative introductory subjects of study areas taught in study programs other than the one studied by the student. 16 credits are also allocated to this group, but it is IMPORTANT that the student can use the credits to freely choose study subjects not only from B, but also from A group.
  • Group D is gone.

So, these are the most important and fundamental changes affecting each of us studying at Vytautas the Great University.
