"Researchers' Night" at the Lithuanian Energy Institute

On September 26 at 4 p.m., the Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI, Breslaujos g. 3, Kaunas) invites guests to visit the open public event "Researchers' Night 2014" and get acquainted with the activities of scientists working at the institute.

The goal of the event is to introduce people of various age groups to the highest level of scientific research conducted at the institute, to educate the general public, and to encourage young people to pursue a career in science.

The exhibition "Let's get acquainted with energy" will allow visitors to get acquainted with the scientific activities carried out at the Lithuanian Energy Institute, see demonstration stands, and learn about the activities of companies of the Lithuanian Electricity Association (LEEA).

From 16:00 hrs. there will be guided tours of the institute's laboratories, during which employees will talk about the equipment and devices used for scientific research and demonstrate their operation. During "Science in Practice" visitors will be welcomed by the open laboratories of Renewable Energy Sources, Nuclear Facility Safety, Combustion Processes, Plasma Technologies and the Hydrogen Energy Technology Center.

The latest scientific research and current events on the following topics will be presented in the simple lectures-discussions "Learn, Ask, Discuss!", which will take place in the LEI Great Hall at 6:00 PM:

"The Greatest Nuclear Power Plant Disasters in Human History" by Dr. Darius Laurinavičius;

"Hydrogen Energy in the Modern World" by Dr. Marius Urbonavičius;

"Latest renewable energy technologies in Lithuania and the world" by Dr. Giedrius Gecevičius.

Members of the Lithuanian Electricity Association (LEEA) will also present member companies and invite them to participate in the final part of the event, the game - the quiz "Employ Knowledge". All event participants, from students to seniors, will be able to compete in this quiz. The quiz questions will be related to the lecture material of the "Researchers' Night", visits to open laboratories and general knowledge about energy. Prizes await the winners!

"Researchers' Night" is a traditional science festival held in European Union countries, the goal of which is to introduce the public to scientists working nearby, to explain in an understandable and attractive way the essence of their research and explorations and their benefits to society.
