VDU Student Parliament elections are starting: be part of the changes!
Until November 16 Submission of applications for candidacy to the Student Parliament of Vytautas Magnus University (VDU) is underway. Students who want to represent their faculty in the VMU Student Parliament until November 16. 23:59 by email valdyba@vdusa.lt must submit an application and a motivation letter.
The VMU Student Parliament is the highest governing body of the Student Representation (SA). Its members adopt, supplement and amend the statutes, regulations and procedural rules of VDU SA. Also, members of parliament elect and dismiss the president of VDU SA by secret ballot, consider and approve the activity and financial reports of VDU SA. Members of the Student Parliament are responsible for solving the problems of VMU students and answering the questions that arise.
The Student Parliament approves student representatives to the VMU Senate, faculty councils, the dispute settlement commission and other VMU institutions at the proposal of the president. It is very important that the Student Parliament, with a majority vote of all elected members, can demand a re-consideration of the decisions made by the university's self-governing institutions on study issues.
"Participating in the activities of the Student Parliament is not only a good way to realize yourself and your ideas, but also to become a part of the changes," says Greta Šmaižytė, Chairwoman of the VDU SA Board. "You have the opportunity to see what is happening at the university, how decisions are made, to discuss and represent the students of your faculty." She emphasizes that even freshmen can boldly apply. In addition, you do not need to be a member of VDU SA to be actively involved in the activities of the Student Parliament.
G. Šmaižytė says that due to the situation caused by COVID-19, the election procedure is slightly changing: "This year, we will not need to collect signatures from students of our faculty. It is enough to fill out the application and write a motivational letter in a free form." According to the chairperson of the Board, the procedure for the elections themselves will not change: the elections will begin on November 18. Outlook on the platform and will take place for 48 hours. Each student will have one vote for one candidate. Students of bachelor's and master's degrees and integrated studies will have the right to vote only for the representative of their faculty. In the elections of the VMU Student Parliament, those students who have collected the most votes "For" are considered to be members of the VMU Student Parliament.
Each faculty (according to the number of students) will be represented by the corresponding number of members of parliament: Faculty of Economics and Management (EFF) – 6 representatives; Faculty of Natural Sciences (GMF) - 4 representatives; Faculty of Humanities (HMF) - 7 representatives; Faculty of Informatics (IF) – 4 representatives; Faculty of Catholic Theology (KTF) – 3 representatives; Faculty of Arts (MF) – 5 representatives; Academy of Music (MA) – 3 representatives; Faculty of Law (TF) – 4 representatives; Faculty of Political Sciences and Diplomacy (PMDF) - 6 representatives; Faculty of Social Sciences (SMF) - 6 representatives; Education Academy (ŠA) – 8 representatives; Academy of Agriculture (ŽŪA) – 11 representatives.
