Will honor the memory of Icchok Mer

Tuesday, March 18, 3 p.m. VDU prof. An event dedicated to the memory of the writer, screenwriter Icchok Mero will be held in the auditorium of Marija Gimbutienė (K. Donelaičio str. 52-211).

This meeting continues the tradition of the Department of Lithuanian Literature of VDU to gather together with university students and teachers and spend an hour honoring writers who have recently passed away in Anapilin.

On March 13 of this year, Icchokas Meras died in a Tel Aviv hospital - a famous Lithuanian writer, a laureate of the Lithuanian National Prize, who even when living in exile always wrote only in Lithuanian, he himself said more than once that his work is an inseparable part of Lithuanian culture. The teachers and students of Vytautas the Great University liked I. Meras, and the students chose to write their final theses from his rich work.

I. Mero's works "The Yellow Patch" (1960), "The Earth is Always Alive" (1963), "The Old Fountain" (1971), "Ties Last a Moment" (1963), "Sara" (2008) and many others were repeatedly translate into Estonian, Hebrew, Russian, Spanish, German, French, Latvian, Norwegian, Georgian, Polish, Bulgarian, Czech, Tajik, English, Danish, Dutch, Turkish.

After lighting a memorial candle, the participants of the event will share their memories of I. Mero's work and read excerpts from his works. The head of the Department of Lithuanian Literature, doc. Dr. Dalia Kuiziniene.
