Apeiron Theater will question moral issues
March 17 Apeiron Theater from Klaipėda invites the people of Kaunas to its latest premiere, "Zinduoliu pereja". The play will be shown for the only time in the Kaunas Chamber Theatre. After the performance, a discussion with the audience is planned, in which the creators of the performance and invited intellectuals of the temporary capital will participate. The discussion will be moderated by Apeiron's producer, theologian, philosopher Ervinas Koršunovas.
In "Animal Crossing", the young director from the port city, Greta Kazlauskaitė, raises complex and sensitive issues of today: the traumatic consequences of abortion, the metamorphoses of the grief of unborn children, defects of the maternal instinct, communication between the living and the dead through trance or somnabulism. On stage, these themes are developed through the phenomenology of everyday experiences and situations, sometimes even giving in to the illusion that reality can hide everything under masks of indifference or self-irony. In this perspective, the play acquires shades of tragic farce. However, the drama remains, because the characters of the play do not know the recipe for the saving elixir. They feel imprisoned in the kingdom of Hades like Sartre's characters and would rather see punishing images of God than the image of the merciful Mother of God. However, in this Lynchian labyrinth, they are somewhere close to the Lord and the viewer cannot help but notice it! It is comforting that we are at the crossing, although the exit is not yet in sight...
The director herself describes the problematic of her work as follows: "The audience will see the confrontation of the main character of the performance with the aggressors of her consciousness, as she makes a fatal decision. It is like the journey of a questionable soul through purgatory, where it faces contradictions, guilt, its blind self and the self that is yet to be born. However, the apparent reality has one big plus - it is fictitious. And this means that everything can still be changed, after all, a person always has more than one alternative. Together, the play analyzed what human bonds are. Do we realize the depths of the bonds that connect us, which are woven between various circumstances and lives. Why do we terminate them? Why are we a species killing our own kind? And how expensive is the transition from a species individual to a finite, that is, a being that realizes its end? The relationship between the mother and the unborn child is more circumstantial in this case. However, we can also attribute relationships with family members, friends, and enemies to this. No matter which one we choose, the most important part of it all is the act of disconnecting. This is extremely relevant, because people not only end relationships easily, but also do not know how to establish a connection with a person. Relationships between people become a fiction. So what is man to man now? A terrible saying: "Man to man is a wolf", but an even more terrible phrase would be: "Man to man is nothing."
This variety show lasts an hour and a half and is expertly performed by Apeiron actors: Kęstutis Bručkus, Erika Kubiliūtė, Vaiva Kvedaravičiūtė, Kristina Švenčionytė. Eglė Kazickaitė operates the scenography, lights and sound.
VMU students are kindly invited to visit the performance and participate in the discussion that follows. Half an hour before the performance, tickets will be sold at a discount (in the Kaunas Chamber Theatre), for VDU students they will cost 4 EUR.
