    A, B things

    It is recommended to take the compulsory subjects of group A during the first four semesters, that is, two years of study.

    Must choose at least one study subject out of all five subgroups of study areas (at least 20 credits), without choosing a subject that is in the same field of study as the study program you are studying. You need to choose one subject from the following subgroups of study areas:

    1. Natural, technological and agricultural sciences;
    2. Humanities;
    3. Social sciences;
    4. Arts.
    5. Digital competencies.

    For example, if you are studying the study program of Lithuanian Philology and Publishing, you cannot choose the Group A subject "Literature" of the same field of study.

    However, depending on the degree program, exceptions may apply. If you have any questions, please contact us by e-mail akademai@vdusa.lt

    From the sub-group of foreign languages, which consists of compulsory subjects of English and other foreign languages taught at the university, must choose a minimum of 12 credits and a maximum of 24 credits.

    You must choose the level of English according to the following rules:

    1. who started studying English from a higher level than A1, must reach the C1 level of academic English;
    2. having started studying English from level A1, must reach level B2 of academic English;

    having C1 level competences in academic English, you must to study a higher level of English or other foreign languages, the volume of which is not less than 12 credits, but no more than 24 credits.

    The level of learning English is determined by the results of the English language test passed at the Institute of Foreign Languages (UKI) and the English language evaluations in the school leaving certificate. You can skip the English placement test if you score 90 percent or more in the English VBE. You will then study English by choosing any C1 or C1/C2 level English subject. Competence at level C1 is credited to students who have submitted documents certifying competence at level C1 (standardized English language tests or certificates of education in English).

    Yes, after starting university studies and having academic English C1 level competences, you must study a higher level of English or other foreign languages with a volume of at least 12 credits but no more than 24 credits.

    Examples of options:

    1. If you have passed the English language test and its competences correspond to level A1, you will have to reach level B2 of academic English, which means you will have to study levels A1, A2, B1, B2.
    2. If you have passed the English language test and its competences correspond to the B1 level, you will have to reach the C1 level of academic English, which means that you must choose the B1, B2 and C1 levels of English.
    3. If you passed the state English language exam with 90 percent or more, you can take the test and get credit for C1 level and study any language at least 2 levels, if you didn't get credit, you can study C1 level English and any other foreign language.

    The remaining free credits can be used to choose English language studies above C1 level, other foreign language studies or freely optional study subjects (group B subjects).

    Group B – alternative introductory subjects of study areas taught in a study program other than the one studied by the student. Credits for this group (16 credits) can be used to freely choose study subjects not only from B but also from A group. The list of subjects is published every academic year.

    For example, if you are studying the study program of Lithuanian Philology and Publishing, you cannot choose the same field of study, group A subject "Literature" and group B subject "Fundamentals of Contemporary Linguistics".

    However, depending on the degree program, exceptions may apply. If you have any questions, please contact us by e-mail akademai@vdusa.lt.

    Yes, you may not choose a single subject from the list of subjects in group B, but instead you may choose other freely chosen subjects outside the study program. If you are studying in a parallel or Academia cum laude individual study program, you can use the credits allocated to group B to study study program subjects, i.e. the place of group B subjects in the study plan will be taken by the subjects and credits of the parallel or individual study program.

    You must study the computer literacy study subject (4 credits) if:

    1. does not have an ECDL (European Computer User) certificate,
    2. you have not passed the information technology state matriculation exam with a positive score,
    3. you have not taken or failed the computer literacy test organized by the university.

    If you have more questions, please contact us by e-mail. by post akademai@vdusa.lt

    Concurrent studies

    You can choose your side studies freely, you can start from any semester, taking into account the possibilities of completing them on time.

    In order to choose additional studies, you must submit an application to the dean(s) of the faculty where you are studying or to the chancellor(s) of the academy. The application must be submitted no later than before the start of registration for the study subjects of the next semester.

    Can freely choose side studies from the list of side study programs offered during the academic academic year, not necessarily from their faculty or academy.

    Yes, you can, but you can study one selected parallel study program for free, and you can study the second and more parallel study program modules as a student by paying for your studies.

    Concurrent studies may be discontinued after the end of the first semester. In order to discontinue parallel studies, you must submit a reasoned request to the dean(s) of your faculty or the chancellor(s) of the academy. You will be removed from parallel studies by order of the Rector, at the request of the dean or the chancellor.

    Debts can be waived, but debts from related subjects are not canceled and must be remedied by re-studying the same subject or choosing any other subject from the university's list of liberal arts subjects and paying the prescribed fee according to the fees for studies approved by the Rector payment and return procedure.

    After stopping the parallel studies and in order to resume them, you must write a request to the dean(s) or the chancellor(s) of the faculty where you are studying and to extend the studies of the same parallel study program free of charge.

    After stopping the parallel studies and in order to study another parallel study program, you must pay for the credits of the newly chosen parallel study program, which you have already used in the interrupted parallel study program.

    The subjects of parallel studies are counted towards the overall average of the semester.

    According to the procedure from 2017 The credits of the associate studies program count towards the total number of study credits. The volume of parallel studies is 40 or 60 credits. As the main study program, university liberal arts study subjects can be counted as subjects of the parallel study program. A student who has freely chosen to study additional studies uses the credits allocated to university liberal arts group B study subjects for these studies.

    If parallel studies are designed in the study program, i.e. planned and specified in the study programs (including pedagogy parallel studies for obtaining a teacher's qualification), 60 credits are allocated to them. If the study program does not provide for side studies and students choose side studies outside of the study program, the scope of such studies is no more than 40 credits.

    No, upon completion of associate studies, a certificate of associate studies is issued.

    If you have more questions, please contact us by e-mail. by post akademai@vdusa.lt

    Credits

    During the semester, you must choose study subjects with a credit volume of at least 24 and no more than 36 credits.

    The recommended amount of credits in one year is 60 credits.

    You can exceed the limit of 36 credits if you study in parallel or individual studies. However, the volume of study subjects per semester cannot exceed 42 credits. An application to the dean's office must be made for exceeding credits.

    If you register for less than the allowed number of credits (24 credits) or if you do not register for study subjects at all, you will be removed from the student list and your study contract will be terminated. A lower number of credits can only be taken for objective reasons, with the permission of the dean of the faculty or the chancellor of the academy.

    The cost of the credit is calculated depending on the cost of the study program, so this question can be answered by the faculty where you study or the administration of the academy.

    Rotation

    This is the exchange (rotation) of students from/to state-funded places/non-state-funded places.

    The rotation takes place before the beginning of the fall semester, at the end of the summer. The evaluation period is one academic year of study.

    A student whose first-cycle and integrated studies are state-financed, after the end of the year of study, retains state funding for studies, if his/her study achievements correspond to the requirements of a good student's studies established in the Law on Science and Studies of the Republic of Lithuania achievement criterion, i.e. if he/she has no academic debts, has fulfilled all the requirements of the study program during the evaluation period and has reached an excellent or typical level of study achievement.

    A student who has academic debts or whose study achievements meet the threshold level loses state funding for studies. A student who has lost state funding must pay for his/her studies the tuition fee set in the student admission rules approved by the university in the year of admission, and the vacant state-funded study place is best taken in the same field of study, in the same course and according to a student studying the same form of study at a place not financed by the state, meeting the criteria for good learning.

    For more information, see the description of the rotation order: https://www.vdu.lt/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Rotacijos-tvarka.pdf

    Exams and colloquiums

    If you fail the exam (getting an exam grade lower than 5) or fail to attend the exam for a valid reason, you have the right to retake the exam once. Replay is free.

    If you receive a negative assessment of the colloquium (less than 5), or if you do not attend the colloquium for a valid reason, you can retake it once free of charge, but no later than within 3 weeks of the settlement. If several colloquiums are planned for the study subject, only one with the highest weight can be retaken.

    If you fail to attend an exam or other settlement without an important justifiable reason, or if you act dishonestly during the settlement, the exam or other settlement cannot be rescheduled or held at another time.

    If you fail the exam, you have the right to retake it once for free. If, after retaking the exam, the final grade of the subject is lower than 5, you will receive a debt for the study subject and will have to repeat the studies of that subject, paying the price of credits determined by the Rector's order.

    The retaking of exams is organized by the relevant departments after the end of the exam session, at the time specified in the academic calendar. Departments publish the schedule of retaken exams on the Student Portal (studentas.vdu.lt), on the notice boards of faculties and departments or equivalent units no later than two days before the retake date of the exam.

    In order to postpone (delay) the exam session, the student must contact the dean(s) of his/her faculty or the chancellor(s) of the academy - they decide whether the session can be postponed. The exam session can be postponed: no later than March 1 in the fall semester, no later than August 31 in the spring semester. If you want to delay the exam session for an even longer time, it is decided by the vice-rector of studies. It is not possible to advance the exam session.

    In such a case, you should contact the dean of your faculty or the chancellor of the academy and ask to postpone one exam.

    If you were unable to attend the exam(s) during the session due to important justifiable reasons, the dean of the faculty or the chancellor of the academy may postpone the taking of those exams by decree: in the fall semester no later than March 1, in the spring semester no later than as of August 31 The student or his/her authorized persons must inform about the reasons for absence before the end of the exam session. You must submit a reasoned request with supporting documents to the dean(s) or the chancellor(s) of the academy for permission to take the exam at another time, within two working days after the reasons why you could not attend disappear.

    A doctor's note is an official document justifying a missed exam.

    If you do not agree with the teacher's assessment, you can submit an appeal request to the dean(s) of the faculty where you are studying or to the chancellor(s) of the academy, following the Rector's approved awith a description of the procedure for examining appeals.

    Has the right to file an appeal regarding evaluations of study results and violations of billing procedures.

    You have the right to submit an appeal within 5 working days after the evaluation is published on the Student Portal (studentas.vdu.lt).

    Academic debt is received when the final grade of the subject is unsatisfactory (4 or less) after retaking the exam (with the exception of VMU Faculty of Law students, they receive academic debt when a satisfactory grade is not obtained from the Law field exam, i.e. 5.). Also for dishonest behavior during any settlement where a final grade of 0 (zero) is recorded in the study result sheet. In such a case, the student or listener does not participate in other settlements of the study subject, the study of the subject is suspended, and the academic debt is credited.

    You have to pay for repeating an uncredited subject, the price is determined by the dean's office or the department. It depends on the number of credits, the student's year of enrollment and which study program the uncredited subject belongs to. Payment must be made before re-learning the subject.

    You will be removed from the student list and the study contract will be terminated:

    •     at the student's request;
    •     for lack of progress, if he/she has received three or more credits from different subjects, that is, the final grades of the subject are grades lower than 5 (five);
    •     failing to pay for studies on time according to the Rector's approved description of the procedure for concluding contracts, paying and returning fees and fees for studies;
    •     not registered for semester subjects or the required minimum;
    •     not returning from academic leave;
    •     did not defend or did not defend the thesis;
    •     after the expiration of the contract;
    •     for failure to fulfill the terms of the contract;
    •     for violation of the University Statute, internal order.

    Yes. When repeating a study subject, previously achieved study results can be credited. When repeating a study subject, you can choose whether you will repeat the entire subject and pay the full tuition fee for the subject being repeated, or whether you will take into account the positive study results of the interim assessments achieved before and repeat only those parts of the subject whose achievements were evaluated negatively. In this case, only parts of the repeated study subject were studied, except in cases where dishonest behavior of the student was recorded. In order to offset positively graded interim payments, a request must be made to the dean(s) of the faculty or the chancellor(s) of the academy, indicating which parts you want to offset.

    Yes, during the academic holidays, you can repeat individual subjects from which you had debts, paying for the repetition according to the scope of the studied subjects in credits.
