The Student Representative Council of Vytautas Magnus University does not lag far behind this vision, with its informal lecture series "Me, non-alcoholic beer and lecturer", which has been a tradition for the second year.

This is an event that has become an integral part of the student community, which every time brings together a community of young people from all over Kaunas and beyond. Better known as „Bokalas“ within the internal environment of the event organizers, this event provides an opportunity to hear the experiences, life wisdom and other unique pearls of each interlocutor from guest speakers, called “teachers” that evening, but not in the everyday auditorium chair, but in an informal bar environment.

From then until now?

The first event of this type was organized before the pandemic, and quickly became popular not only among students, but also among lecturers. Usually, the monthly events were a great opportunity to get to know your university community better, not only from an academic but also from a personal perspective. What kind of person is your lecturer? The stories you heard, the adventures, the experiences, and all the advice you shared helped you understand this.

„"The event left a really good impression, there was a very cozy and relaxed atmosphere. I liked how everything was organized: without dry speeches or formality, everything happened naturally, with lots of laughter and interesting conversations. It was great that the audience could get involved and ask questions."” – shared Mantė, who participated in the event with Giedrius Savickas.

This was the main idea of the event – to create a space that would allow for free questioning, discussion and sharing of thoughts. Everything remained essentially the same, except that when you come to listen to the lecturer, you may see a familiar face in the speaker’s chair, seen in the Lithuanian media or on social networks. Moreover, each event is special – both because of the topic and because of the personal stories heard, which the guests share to inspire and motivate the participants.

„<…> such a student space, you can relax and not feel constrained. <…> the guest had so much to say himself, and the host only added interesting questions on those topics. <…>” – a student from another university shared her impressions from the same event.

Why not miss this opportunity?

The success and popularity of the event cycle is demonstrated by the growing interest among students and the invited speakers. In the recent „Me, Non-Alcoholic Beer and Teacher“ talks, one could hear people such as: opinion leader Greta Kuliušaitė, actor Giedrius Savickas, fighter Sergejs Maslobojev and comedian Deividas Vizgirdas, who appeared at the most recent event.

„"It's great that we were able to extend the event by everyone's will and it didn't end in the middle of it <…> that you welcome everyone who wants to come, not just your university students."” – adds a student from another university.

What's next?

Although we cannot yet say when the next "Me, Non-Alcoholic Beer and Teacher" will be, we hope to return and continue to delight with an event that brings new winds and creates unforgettable moments.
